New Builder Homes Off to a Good Start in 2010
March 2, 2010
In the midst of the national economic slow-down, local builders are starting 2010 off with strong statistics. Permits issued in January 2010 to construct new homes were up 90% compared to January 2009. These numbers are likely influenced by the first time buyer tax credit that is set to expire this spring. To be eligible for receiving the tax credit, home buyers must be under contract by April 30. The folks looking to buy a new home in the near future have been prompted by the credit, as we saw in the pick up in home sales at the end of 2009 as the original tax credit was set to expire. Most of these new homes are priced under $200,000.
One of the most popular new developments is the Community of Creek Meadows in South College Station. We are proud to be listing several beautiful new homes in this area. Built by TC Homes, these homes range from $169,900 (1514 sq ft) to $212,000 (1965 sq ft). Several homes are now complete and the remainder are currently under construction.
As for home sales in January, this year’s sales for the month were slightly higher than sales from January 2009. We will continue to eagerly watch what the market is doing in Bryan-College Station and hope to see steady economic growth in the housing market.
